Cengiz YILDIRIM is a full professor in the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences at Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. He is the responsible person for the international relations of the Turkish Society of Geomorphology. He received his PhD (2008) from the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences at Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. He worked in the Turkish Geological Survey (MTA) as a geomorphologist between 2002 and 2008 and as a Post-Doc at the University of Potsdam and the German Center For Geosciences (GFZ) between 2008 and 2012. After his four years Post-Doc in Germany, Dr Yildirim started to work as Assistant Professor at the Istanbul Technical University. He has expertise in coastal geomorphology, tectonic geomorphology, active tectonics, and paleoseismology. Geospatial technologies, geomorphic mapping, morphometric analysis and radiometric dating techniques (e.g. Cosmogenic, OSL, U-Th and 14C) are at the hypocenter of his studies. He has been involved in and led in several projects in Turkey, Germany, Balkan Countries, Cyprus, Algeria, Chile, and Antarctica. He has published more than 40 papers in high-ranking international refereed journals. Prof. Dr Yildirim received the Outstanding Young Research Award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2020 and the Georg Foerster Experienced Researcher Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany in 2021.
